Wexford
Coracle have run some fantastic courses at the Wexford Campus and lots of students have learned skills in graphic design, web design, media communications and online marketing. Our short courses in graphic and web design and online marketing ran in the evenings and students have been designing book covers, cd covers and creating fantastic websites! Those who completed the course have come out with a level 8 qualification and either 10 or 20 credits depending on what class they took.
Media Communications
Wexford Campus have joined forces with South East Radio to create a level 7 course worth 20 credits in Media Communications. We had a lot of interest in the course and after interviews we had eight students start with us although one had to drop out due to other committments. The students started in the Wexford Campus learning about journalism and the law surrounding the media before heading down to the South East studios to get some hands on experience. During their time at South East Radio a mid and end of term review were carried out and the findings were that all the students were very much enjoying the practical side of the course. Each student researched, scripted, recorded and edited their own 10-15 minute radio programme in a range of genres from current affairs, to documentary, to a radio play. All the students produced their programmes to a very high standard.
Feedback on the course has been very positive with one student saying:
"if you want a career in Broadcasting or radio this is the course for you as its fully credited and you can apply to any radio station for employment on completing this course. The places are limited and the class is small so that each student gets the full attention of each tutors. So go on give it a go you will enjoy every second of it you won’t want the course to end.
I loved every week and I would recommend it to all as it’s a terrific course." (Sharon Colgan, Media Comms student)
and another:
"I found the course material in South East Radio very well prepared. The staff in South East Radio knew exactly what to teach us and what we needed to know. It was great that it was so hands on, and we got to learn from the professionals. I found this course very interesting, fun and informative. I have learnt so much that I would feel confident working in this industry and being able to use the equipment in radio stations. I have enjoyed my time here and would be delighted to work with any member of South East Radio in the future." (Édaín Byrne)
Sharon Colgan, who is pictured at the top of the page, has had her radio show broadcast already (head to the Coracle profile page to hear it!!) and the rest of the shows will be broadcast in August on South East Radio.
We are very proud of all the students who have undertaken courses with Coracle and wish them all the best with their careers!
